Greek Islands, Athens and North to the Balkans

Spent 2 weeks travelling around the Greek islands. Loved Crete, great mountains and walking and lovely weather.

Stayed in Hania for a few days camping, took a bus to the top of the mountains then walked 16.5kms to the coast on the other side... only to find the boat home was canacelled due to high winds.... so had to stay overnight then walk out 6.5hrs the next day. It was great! Beautiful scenery, but we were slightly concerned that we had left the tent with all our possessions at the other end of the island. Anyway, got back the next day and all was fine... except the legs and feet .... coastal walk was probably about 20++ kms... Mike of course was fine!! Ronas knee survived its first big test!

Then caught the ferry to Santorini, beautiful entrance to the bay, big Caldera, but apart from that it was a pretty boring place really. Hired a quad bike to tour round which was fun.

Then we headed off to Paros, nice little island, upgraded to a scooter this time... Mike was in his element, Rona was scared sh**tless!

Now been in Greece for 2 weeks and havet even been for a swim.... freezing over here for us aussies... no way we were getting in the water.

Caught the ferry back to Athens... the plan was to get the train north to Belgrade then down to Montenegro.... of course it just happened to be Labour Day.... and all the greeks ..unknown to us... strike on labour day. First person told us no trains ... strike.... second person told us 1 train and where to buy ticket... waited 30 min in queue to buy ticket... third person told us train full! Decided to turn up the next day anyway, just in case, bought a tickets, plenty of seats... no problem! This just summed up our entire travels in Greece.... information was difficult to come by. of course, we couldnt buy a ticket all the way to Belgrade.. only to Thessaloniki.

So caught the train to Thessaloniki, international ticket office shut... strike! Scream! long story later... eventually got the sleeper to Belgrade, spent a day there then another sleeper to Bar in Montenegro.

Map of travels roughly right but map doesnt seem to like Montenegro so towns are sort of in the wrong place!!

Will try to upload some photos soon but a bit hard work using the computers in the internet cafes... not exactly leading edge machinery!

All adds to the fun...
